Hi,

When trying to sync the calendar in Astrasync, I recieve the following error in the debug log:

[ERROR] - java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot add null value to Hashtable running SynchronizingState.

The error occurs consistently on item 103 of 107 the first time I sync, then on item 3 of 7 when I try syncing a second time. I have tried reinstalling the application and purging the calendar data on the device. Diagnostics are enabled on the device, as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

TJ

Hi support@a2zinc.net

Can you please confirm the BlackBerry model number and OS version you are running? Also what email server do you run?

When the java.lang.NullPointerException occurs in AstraSync, a corresponding entry should be written to the Phone Event Log. We need you to access this event log, find and select the Entry and copy/paste the details. Note, then phone Event Log fills up rapidly so as soon as the error occurs in AstraSync you should check the Event Log, else it will be difficult to find.

To access Event Log on the phone:

If you are using the Storm you can access the log via:

-From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, display the menu and then
select Show Keyboard.
-Hold the number key to lock the number keyboard. The 123 icon appears on the
top-right of the screen, and a small lock appears on the number key.
-Press the ( , ) ( 5 ) ( , ) ( 5 ) keys.

If you have a different phone then from the home screen you can hold down the
ALT key then press L, G, L, G. This should bring up the device log.

To give you an idea the exception looks something like:

Name: IllegalArgumentException
GUID: 9c3cd62e3320b498
Time: Feb 18, 2009 07:57:26
No detail message

Incidentally we are working on a new build which handles these errors more gracefully. The plan is if an error is encountered, then we will log it and move on to the next calendar entry rather than terminated the whole sync process. We have a number of problems reported related to reoccurring events on the device. These issues are actually bugs with the BlackBerry Operating System and are out of our control (which is why we are unable to fix them). Keep your eye out on the announcements for this build.

Hi, I'm also having this problem. I assume I'm using 2.2.10 as I installed today.
I'm using a Blackberry Storm 9500 v4.7.0.78 (Platform 4.0.0.98) and connecting to MS Exchange 2006.
The Event Log shows;

I'm receiving the same error with 2.2.10 on a BB storm. I've reset the phone, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, chosen BIS and TCP/IP network configuration methods, and un-sync'd and re-sync'd my calendar (I only sync my calendar) with our Exchange 2007 server. Still no luck.

I work at a large university and have recommended your product colleagues but I'm getting a little concerned with the errors that I cannot seem to get around.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi heistsj

Can you please provide the stack trace as detailed in the previous post?

I suspect the problem with calendars is occurring with anything that is a reoccurring event. There are a number of bugs which appear to be with the device itself that cause these issues. In the next build we are working on changing the syncing method so when it comes across an error, it will log it and move onto the next event, rather than stopping the whole syncing process.

I’ll let you know when this build is ready to try.

Hi Amit,

The key sequence doesn't seem to work on my BB storm 9530. I'm running firmware 4.7.0.103a - just installed. The java error was occurring in 4.7.0.99 as well as I had detailed earlier and still occurs with this new firmware.

Is there any other way I can give you the data you need?

Steve, Please use the following steps to access the event viewer on the Storm

-From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, display the menu and then select Show Keyboard.
-Hold the number key to lock the number keyboard. The 123 icon appears on the top-right of the screen, and a small lock appears on the number key.
-Press the ( , ) ( 5 ) ( , ) ( 5 ) keys.

Vicki,

I've pressed the keys as you have outlined, following the procedure to a T and nothing happens. The keyboard remains up on my BB with the home screen displayed behind it.

Please can you try from the BlackBerry home screen in Landscape mode on the keyboard press & hold 123 key until lock appears, THEN press "/"/ & the logs will appear.

FYI shighfield was able to get around the problem by removing reoccurring events. He is now waiting for the new version.

I am reviewing the usefulness of this tool over BES for our existing BB employees. I was encouraged but now I'm apprehensive as to whether or not it's ready for use.

I am using a Blackberry Perl, exchange 2003. I have the same error (among others that I will post in appropriate threads).

I have a Blackberry Curve and am encountering the exact same error. Here's what is in the event log. Please advise on how to correct this - the error occurs on item 1 when trying to syncrhonize my calendar. I am running 2.2.10. This is a corporate BB so this is impacting my work daily.

We have a new build of AstraSync V2.2.12 which has a number of fixes for NullPointerException and IllegalArgumentException related errors.

This release also has better error handling if such errors continue to occur. Instead of halting the sync process, an error will be logged in the AstraSync Debug Log and sync Process will continue.

This version is available from www.astraysnc.com/dwl. Please point your BlackBerry browser to this location and download V2.2.12

We expect this build to resolve a number of faults however there is still the chance that there are other bugs that may cause these exceptions. In this instance they will be logged and the problem event or contact will not be synced. If this happens please let us know immediately so that we can investigate before the debug log is overwritten with new entries.

If you have any new issues please visit the AstraSync support forum http://forum.astrasync.com/

Just a quick FYI. I am downloading the v2.2.12 as I type this.

But under v2.2.10 I had to delete the future re-occuring appointments in Outlook and re-create them on the BlackBerry, which is fine (as long as they're on one or the other and the errors stop). But when I did that AstraSync would not sync those re-occuring appointments back to Outlook. But neither did it give me a hashtable error either. I thought that was curious and thought I'd mention it here.

Also, just for the record these appointments have been in my calendar since 2000 and previous versions of AstraSync handled and sync'ed them just fine.

I installed 2.2.12 last night and I have been trying to get it working today. However, I have found that I run into the exact same errors that were occuring in 2.2.10. Has anyone else been able to successfully sync a calendar with recurring events since upgrading to 2.2.12?

We haven't had any more reports of this problem with users on 2.2.16 or 3.0.x. If anyone continues to have this issue please upgrade to the latest version and see if this resolves your issue.
