If you are using AstraSync 4.0.16 purely to sync calendars and contacts against an Exchange server, is it better to delete the BIS CICAL service books and allow AstraSync to sync attendee information? Or is it better to not have AstraSync sync attendee information and leave the CICAL service books alone?

Hello Tim,

Unless you specifically require the CICAL book, we would always recommend that you remove this.

Please ensure that you read the knowledge base article before enabling attendee sync.

But... does AstraSync (the company) recommend syncing attendee information? Or no?

Hello Tim,

No, I would not recommend enabling the 'Sync Attendees' setting.

Excellent. One last question: is there a document/FAQ/whatever detailing the conditions under which AstraSync will sync calendar data and/or changes (or, on the other hand, the conditions under which AstraSync will not sync data and/or changes)? If not, can you let us know what they are?

I'm specifically thinking about things like, for instance, AstraSync will not sync changes to appointments if they happen in the past. Or it won't sync changes to meetings when attendees are changed. That kind of stuff, that way when something doesn't sync, we can look at that document and determine if there's an actual problem or if our stuff isn't syncing by design.

Hello Tim,

We are in the process of compiling a Wiki which will detail this kind of information.

However in the mean time I will provide you with a list of conditions:

On the device:

AstraSync will not sync any changes to an event if it has attendees (this includes the user). A message will be displayed in the debug log stating that the event was not synced.

AstraSync will sync any changes to an event on the device, whether it be in the past or in the future, irrespective of the sync filter window (2 weeks, 1 month etc. in the past), as this filter only applies to the server.

On the Server:

AstraSync will only sync events that have been created or modified if they are either in the future or within the sync filter window. This includes events with attendees.

This is not an exhaustive list, as there are many complexities relating to recurring events, exceptions to recurring events etc. And what relationship these series of events on the server have to the device events. These are not easy to outline succinctly, and are best worked through on a case by case basis.

However it should at least provide you with basic expected behaviour.

Ranald.

Awesome! Thank you. One point of clarification, however...

This should not be a problem if AstraSync is *not* configured to sync attendees, correct?
