AstraSync Menu not appearing Options

Some users report an issue where the AstraSync menu fails to appear. There is a possible work around but no full solution at this time.

If you are running a Nextel 8350i Device and have problems with the menu, then please see the following posting:


For ALL other devices:

We believe the issue with the menu not appearing is due to an OS issue that relates to the number of threads spawned. A reboot will resolve the issue short term. As a long term work around we recommend users disable the audio notification within AstraSync. This can be done under:

Menu > Options > Alert Settings. Set to either Vibrate only or none.

A technical description of the problem is given below:

1) The Java virtual machine imposes a fixed limit on the number of threads a process may spawn.
2) The operating system spawns a new thread to play an audio tone when a new message arrives
3) On certain devices, this thread isn't closed properly and remains open. This is a OS related issue.
4) The operating system spawns a new thread to display the Menu in AstraSync.
5) Eventually the device will get into a state where it is unable to open new threads (because the maximum limit of threads which can be spawned has been reached due item 3). The result is that the Menu option doesn't respond and a tone isn't played when a new message is received. This is temporally cured by a reboot of the device which clears all threads.
